In times past we generally had to go to a bank or other high street outlet to arrange our cover, and this made comparing deals very time consuming, so most of us didn't bother.

A more recent development has made the process even faster: insurance comparison sites. These allow you to input your details and instantly compare quotes from dozens of providers offering hundreds of different policies.
This is a great timesaver, and even though it can't make the process particularly enjoyable it can certainly make it almost painless.
You should be aware though that many of these comparison sites don't search the whole market, only companies with whom they have an arrangement. For this reason you should still do some searching of your own and get a range of quotes from different sites and insurance providers.
